A Yuletide Carol

A Yuletide Carol

The Old Tucson Amateur Theatrical Society (comprised of local townsfolk) are putting on a play for citizens and visitors. The play is their own version of Mr. Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, a novel that has become a world-wide sensation since its publication 29 years earlier. The production will appear 3-4 times a day in the Grand Palace. This play will be a comedic version of the tale as the society attempts to put on a show while its actors squabble, forget their lines, get stage fright, and even beg for the audience’s help.

The lights in town are making robbing the bank impossible — so what’s an evil gang to do? Why, destroy the entire power supply and company, of course! The gang attempts to eradicate the power supply for the town in order to make the entire town dark and give them cover for robbing the bank. Little do they know, however, that the sheriff and deputies are on to them. This is the comedy stunt show happening a few times a day at the North End stage.

Electric Tree Lighting

Electric Tree Lighting

At 6:10pm every evening, the town will gather to see if Royal A. Johnson’s experiment with electricity will succeed. With the carolers leading the entire community in song, the power will be turned on — and the tree will light from the base up, then across the wires of town, spreading across the town and up to the Mayor’s house at High Chaparral. This is the main Christmas tree lighting event. There will be music and song and the experience of seeing electricity illuminate the tree for the first time. The display will be a memorable photo opportunity, with professional photography available for families.

In what will become a holiday tradition, the Yuletide Carolers perform period songs from the 1800s multiple times a day throughout the town. Take a moment to stop and enjoy the entertainment!
